A man and a woman have sadly passed away in a tragic California car accident. Meanwhile, their three children have suffered personal injury in the crash. Police said the accident was the result of another woman’s decision to drink and drive. Thus, the woman who allegedly caused the accident was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).
The recent California car accident took place at around 7:46 p.m. on a Tuesday. According to police, a sport utility vehicle ended up colliding with a car. Unfortunately, a man, 28, and a woman, 27, who were riding in the car passed away at the crash scene. However, their three children, ages, 5, 4 and 1, survived the crash. They were transported to a hospital with injuries, where their conditions were deemed critical.
Authorities said the female driver of the sport utility vehicle caused the accident due to drinking and driving, then walked away from the crash before quickly being located. The woman, who ended up being taken to a hospital for treatment, now faces charges of DUI, traffic homicide and committing a hit-and-run in connection with the accident. According to police, the woman had a prior DUI conviction, and thus, she may be sentenced to life behind prison bars if convicted of murder in the second degree.
The loved ones of the two individuals who died in the crash may choose to file wrongful death claims against the woman who reportedly caused the accident, seeking damages. Likewise, personal injury claims may be filed on behalf of the three children who were injured in the crash. Liability must be established, based upon a showing of negligence, before any claims for damages will be decided in California.
