Most California residents don’t expect that on any given day they might suffer a serious injury. However, the reality is that injuries can occur in a wide variety of situations, from car or work-related accidents to “slip and fall” incidents and even injuries from defective consumer products. In fact, these types of injuries are so common that in most years the courts in California will see hundreds, if not thousands, of personal injury lawsuits filed by injured victims who seek compensation. There is no doubt that fighting for compensation after a personal injury incident is crucial for many victims.
Why? Well, for starters, most of these injured victims have medical bills that are piling up, even if they have health insurance to cover some of the costs. Why should an injured victim pay these costs if they were injured due to another person’s negligent or reckless behavior? Injured victims will also likely need further medical treatment over time, as well as potentially needing rehabilitation or therapy to “get back to normal,” or as close as possible.
Some injured victims, however, will never have a path toward complete recovery. Those who suffer from traumatic brain injuries, for example – commonly known as “TBIs” – may lose significant function that they will never regain. TBI victims may need daily assistance or medical treatment for the rest of their lives.
